ARTIST STATEMENT
All of my paintings originate in an emotional experience. I react strongly when I observe the certain scene/figure/person, starting the process that eventually results in the painting. My paintings are representational as I attempt to capture the scene/emotion, not duplicate the physical image. My favorite subject in recent years is urban landscape and I have been fortunate in being able to travel extensively in Italy and France as well as New York City. The Northwest, where I live, also provides many opportunities for paintings.
When others observe my art my wish is for them to experience some of the emotion I feel and find a measure of significance in viewing the art.
I have benefitted greatly from what other artists have passed on to me. Teresa Saia of Seattle is an important inspiration and teacher. I have also worked with many artists through workshops and classes, including: Linda Doll, Eric Wiegardt, Carla O'Connor, Mel Stabin, Arne Westerman, and Quincy Anderson.
My wife, Jan Eisenhardt, supports my artistic efforts through her caring and feedback of her impressions.
